The Treasury Seal

By 1862, the U.S. Treasury had added several features to the national currency in order to make counterfeiting more difficult. Engraved signatures, fine lines, intricate designs, and a treasury seal were all included in the currency. The original red Treasury seal seen on this dollar is very similar to the current one that was streamlined and then approved in 1968.
