New Series of Currency

The U.S. Government issued a new series of redesigned bills as part of the ongoing effort to enhance the security of the U.S. currency. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing announced that it would come out with new designs every seven to 10 years in order to stay a step ahead of counterfeiters. The newly designed $100 bill was introduced in 1996, the $50 bill in 1997, the $20 bill in 1998 and the $10 and $5 bill in 2000.
